BLAST DISEASE



Causal Agent: Pyricularia grisea

Symptoms: 
  • It appears on leaves, nodes, panicle and grains
  • On The leaves, spots are typically spindle-shaped with more or less pointed ends with greyish centre sand Brown to reddish brown margins
  • Lesions may coalesce kill the entire leaf
Remedy:
  • Use of healthy seeds
  • Early sowing
  • Proper Transplanting
  • Some level of resistance has been recorded in IR- 20, IR-36 and IR-42.
  • Spray bavistin @0.2%
  • Orhinosan @ 0.1% with the initiation of leaf blast and repeat at neck blast stage.


BROWN SPOT:


Causal Agent: Drechslera oryzae

Symptoms:
  • Appears on leaves, coleoptiles, leaf sheath, and branches
  • A small circular spot which later on becomes oval brown in colour with grey or whitish centre
  • Black or dark spots appear on glume

Remedy: 
       disease and repeat after10-15days

SHEATH BLIGHT:

Causal Agent: Rhizoctonia solani

Symptoms: 

  • Appears on tillering and flowering stages of the crop.
  • The Lesions are ellipsoid to ovoid, varying from 1-3cm
  • length with a greyish white centre with brownish or red Or purplish red margin.

Remedy: 

  • Burning of the crop residues
  • Destruction of the collateral host
  • Crop rotation
  • Deep summer ploughing helps in reducing the inoculums


STEM ROT:



Symptoms:

  • Appears at the later stages of the Plant growth
  • symptoms appear as yellowing of the outer leaves In the culm.
  • Brown irregular lesion on the outer leaf sheath near the water line appears which later on cause discolouration to leaf sheath.

Remedy:
  • The burning of Diseased debris
  • Deep summer ploughing
  • Allowing The soil to bake before irrigation does help in Reducing the disease


FOOT ROT:


Causal Agent: Fusarium moniliforme

Symptoms: 

  • Most abnormal symptoms are an elongation of the infected plant
  • The infected plant becomes thin and Yellowish green in colour and is taller than a normal plant
  • Sometimes nodal rooting also takes place.

Remedy:

  • Crop rotation
  • Deep summer ploughing


FALSE SMUT:


Causal Agent: Ustilaginoidea virens

Symptoms:


  • It is confined to the ears
  • Due to fructification of the pathogen, scattered individual grains are converted into large, velvety green masses
  • Initially, the kernel colour is orange-yellow which later on turns into blackish.

Remedy:


  • Spray Blitox@0.25% at 50%flowering and repeat after 10 days interval

the crop density will be less and occurs economically
